Typical Day
Free Play - When the children arrive, they are invited to play where they choose. The child may explore one of the three art areas, the water table or sand table, puzzle and small manipulative toys, blocks, trains, cars and large building toys, the housekeeping area, and the playdough table.
   click any picture to enlarge Snack Time – At Hillview, we believe that children feel empowered when they make choices for themselves. Therefore, we like to have the children decide when their tummies are hungry and ready for a snack. Children bring their snacks from home and are encouraged to bring nutritious food. Circle Time – After free play we have a 20 – 25 minute circle time. This includes stories, rhymes, finger plays, music, movement and playing musical instruments.    click any picture to enlarge Outdoor Play – We are fortunate to have a beautiful outdoor play space. The children can ride tricycles, ride-on toys, scooters and wagons in our large bicycle riding area. We also have a large, new playground. The children can also play games on the large grass field or in the treed area.    click any picture to enlarge |

Fieldtrips
Fieldtrips are an important part of our program at Hillvew. They are often related to the monthly theme at the school. For example if our theme is Bugs, we may take a trip to the Lynn Valley Ecology Centre. We do various trips such as, to the local fire hall, grocery store, the pumpkin patch, and we often take in a childrens' play or the VSO at some point throughout the year.
Music and Movement Program
At Hillview we are fortunate to have a wonderful music and movement program. We offer both a live music and dance component. The live music component allows children the opportunity to sing along with out Supervisor, Ms. Lynda as well as play a variety of musical instruments. In our dance component we are pleased to have a professional dance instructor teach our children the art of creative dance through movement and music. Our dance program runs twice a month on alternative weeks and our music program runs every week on alternate days.
